earthquake measuring 6.1 magnitude rocked Osaka in Japan few days ago causing both injuries and death.
A particularly earthquake-prone area, Japan accounts for a large number of the world’s dangerous earthquake activity.
The area has seen some devastating earthquakes, including the 2011 Boxing Day tsunami which killed 15,894 people.
The 17 June 2018 magnitude of 6.1 earthquake that struck 15 km northeast of Osaka continues to produce aftershocks and raise concerns about whether it could trigger larger earthquakes on either of two major active faults. Ruptures on either fault could strongly shake Osaka, a vibrant city of 2.7 million inhabitants.
So far, the earthquake has officially injured 200 people and killed three according to Japanese authorities.
