Poutine is a dish originating from the Canadian province of Quebec consisting of French fries and cheese curds topped with a brown Gravy
here is an easy recipe for Vegan poutine
Fries
vegetable oil for frying
5 medium potatoes, cut into fries
2 cups vegan cheese
Gravy
1 1/2 cups (105 g) diced button or cremini mushrooms
1/4 tsp each sea salt and black pepper, plus more to taste
1 Tbsp (15 ml) balsamic vinegar
optional: 1 tsp coconut aminos
3 Tbsp cornstarch
1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable broth (you can make at home or canned)
1 cup (240 ml) unsweetened plain almond milk
optional: 1-2 tsp vegan worcestershire sauce or ketchup
1 batch vegan Mozzarella “Cheese”
Gravy:
- heat 1-2 tablespoon of oil & add mushrooms, salt, pepper, balsamic vinegar, and coconut aminos (optional).
- Stir and increase heat to medium high to brown the mushrooms. Cook for 4-5 minutes or until they are slightly caramelized.
- Lower heat to low and slowly add the broth and almond milk.add cornstarch at this point whipe whisking & cook. it should resemble gravy pretty quickly and should bubble and thicken as it cooks.
- Cook for 4-5 minutes, or until you've reached the desired consistency. Add broth or almond milk to thin if it becomes too thick
- Transfer to a blender and blend until smooth
- Place the fries into the hot oil, and cook until light brown, about 5 minutes.Remove to a paper towel lined plate to drain.
- place the fries on a serving platter, and sprinkle the cheese over them.
